Abstract: Two differing microfaunal types occur, the calcarous down to 559 m depth and arenacous deeper than 430 m, planktonic forms are mostly found in the calcarous fauna with test composition and depth the most important determining factors. Evidence suggests that a calcium carbonate boundry in the Ross Sea at about 500-550 m exists
