Stout, M.L. 1971 Kawarau Gorge investigation, Roaring Meg - Gentle Annie area. Lower Hutt: New Zealand Geological Survey. New Zealand Geological Survey report EG 103 5 p.
Abstract: In conjunction with engineering geological studies of several large slips along the Kawarau gorge, the area between Roaring Meg and Gentle Annie Creeks was studied to determine the primary causes of slips and subsistence above and below State Highway No. 6. It is my understanding that most of the problems in this area occurred during and/or just after a series of unusually wet storms in September, 1970. The study consisted of examinations of ariel photographs of the area (photos dated 1958 and 1969), inspection of all failures just above and below State Highway No. 6, and inspection of the raw scarp areas, high on the slope above th highway, which has provided debris for mud-flows and rock falls crossing the highway.
