Hegan, B.D. 1973 Eastern side geological investigations, Kaimai tunnel, Kaimai railway deviation. Lower Hutt: New Zealand Geological Survey. New Zealand Geological Survey report EG 150 13 p.

Abstract: This report presents the findings of the recently completed phase of the geological investigations on the eastern side of the Kaimai Railway Tunnel. The purpose of the investigation were twofold:- i) to test the physical properties of the rock and soil units that would be encountered by the T.B.M. in the East Heading and ii) to locate the contact between the Aogatete Volcanics and the Beeson's Island Volcanics. The later point was necessary for planning as it has generally been considered that the T.B.M. would be unable to bore through the Beeson's Island Volcanics. Additional information on both groundwater and ground temperature was obtained from the drill holes. (auth)
