Hegan, B.D. 1973 Report on the preliminary geological investigations for the Rangipo headrace and tailrace tunnels.. Lower Hutt: DSIR, New Zealand Geological Survey. New Zealand Geological Survey report EG 171 14 p.

Abstract: The purpose of this report is to present the findings of the preliminary geological investigations for the proposed Rangipo headrace and tailrace tunnels and associated dropshafts. The Rangipo stage of the Tongariro Power Development will divert most of the Tongariro River above the Waihohonu Stream confluence and lead the water via a headrace tunnel and two dropshafts through the western flanks of the Kaimanawa Mountains to an underground powerhouse. The powerhouse will be sited in the lower reaches of the Waikoko Stream. Water will be lead away from the powerhouse through a tailrace tunnel and be discharged back into the Tongariro River immediately upstream from the Poutu Intake. (auth)
