Brown, I.R. 1974 Preliminary report on drilling investigations, Auckland rapid transit project. Lower Hutt: New Zealand Geological Survey. New Zealand Geological Survey report EG 182 28 p.
Abstract: Pre-existing subsurface data along the proposed rout were compiled by Tonkin and Taylor, consulting engineers. They interpreted these on a series of countour plans showing the inferred upper surfaces of both Waitemata Group rocks, and the stronger / presumably unweathered / member of these. They also prepared a scematic section along the Newmarket extensions showing a volcanic centre at Outhwaite Park (a subsuquent interpretation is shown in figs. 3 and 4). This work showed four areas where subsurface conditions may influence the proposed alignment. 1. Beach Road - Customs Street. 2. Customs Street Station. 3. Civic Centre Station - Upper Queen Street. 4. Park Road Station - Newmarket Portal. A drilling programme has beeen undertaken to investigate these areas (figs. 1,2,3 show bore hole locations). Seventeen drill holes have been completed, mainly in areas 1 and 4; the logs of ten of these holes are included in this report. Details of two other drill holes are included in the long section of fig.7. (auth)
