Brown, I.R. 1976 Engineering geology of underground section, Auckland rapid transit project. Lower Hutt: New Zealand Geological Survey. New Zealand Geological Survey report EG 238 250 p.

Abstract: This report discusses the engineering geology of an underground railway route proposed by the Auckland Rapid Transit (ART) Project Directorate. Information from subsurface investigations was used to predict areas of unfavorable ground conditions. Cored drill holes and in situ tests were concentrated in these areas. The major part of the underground route is in unweathered, but low strength, Waitemata Group siltstones and sandstones. Cut and cover methods of construction are appropriate in weathered Waitemata Group and in very low strength surficial deposits. The area around Eden Crescent was found to form part of an old landslide which appears to have marginal stability. (auth)
