Brown, I.R.; Perrin, N.D. 1977 Rock mechanics investigations for Huntly Coal field development, period up to August 1977. Lower Hutt: New Zealand Geological Survey. New Zealand Geological Survey report EG 285 30 p.
Abstract: Investigations have been undertaken into the engineering geological characteristics of the coal bearing ground to provide data which might be nessesary to assist the improvement of coal recovery in the Huntly district. These investigations included: engineering geological logging of the drives at the Huntly No. 1 (West) Mine, to give an indication of rock condition and faulting in the underlying coal measures; strength testing of core samples from drill holes in Huntly No. 1 (West) Mine area, and coal samples from Maori Farm Opencast Mine, to provide parameters for the design of underground workings; and analysis of a batter failure at Waipuna Opencast Mine to assist with the design of future batters. Results of these investigations are presented in this report together with a discussion of their relevance to actual mine design. (auth)
