Salt, G.A.; Hancox, G.T.; Northey, R.D. 1980 East Abbotsford landslide: limit equilibrium analysis of the East Abbotsford landslide and assessment of the possible causes of the slide. Lower Hutt: New Zealand Geological Survey. <i>New Zealand Geological Survey report EG 341 19 p.

Abstract: Following the major failure on August 8, 1979, intensive investigations into the cause of the East Abbotsford landslide have been carried out over the past six months. Engineering geological and soil testing data obtained from the investigations were presented and assessed in NZGS reports EG328 and EG332. Included in the latter were detailed descriptions of the landslide, pre- and post-slide piezometric conditions, and a discussion of the factors which possibly contributed to the cause of the slide. This report includes a mathematical analysis of stability and a summary of data relating to the causes of the slide. Conclusions are drawn on the main factors which have contributed to instability at East Abbotsford.
