Perrin, N.D. 1982 Geological evaluation of proposed Hawkes Bay Maui natural gas pipeline route, Palmerston North to Takapau. Lower Hutt: New Zealand Geological Survey. New Zealand Geological Survey report EG 369 18 p.

Abstract: Following a request from the MWD Pipeline Project Office (19 January 1982), a brief geological appraisal has been made of the Palmerston North to Takapau section of the proposed Maui natural gas pipeline route to Hawkes Bay. The appraisal has been made using exisiting geological literature of NZGS, studying aerial photographs, and two days were spent in the field looking at some of the difficult sections of the route. The main aim of the appriasal was to identify the main rock and soil types and geologic hazards along the route, and to comment particularly on areas of instability, including those which had already been rcognised and were of some concern to the pipeline engineers. A separate report on active faulting along the proposed route has been prepared by A.G. Hull (Earth Deformation Section, NZGS) and is included here as Appendix 1.
