Franks, C.A.M.; Hancox, G.T. 1989 Draft technical guide for the inclusion of engineering geology and geotechnical data on NZGS geological maps. [s.l.]: [s.n.]. New Zealand Geological Survey report EG 415

Abstract: A renewed interest in the presentation of engineering geology and geotechnical data on geological maps has prompted this revision of a previous draft guide (Hancox, 1981). At present most NZGS geological maps (other than the Urban series and some of the more recent Industrial series maps) are inadequate for effective urban and regional land use planning by NZGS and outside organisations. To make geological maps more useful to outside users such as planners, engineers and the general public, they should include a range of engineering geological and geotechnical data both on the map and in the accompanying map text. This technical guide is intended to cover the range, definition, description and presentation of the engineering geological and geotechnical information which should be included on NZGS geological maps. The intention is that this guide will ultimately be incorporated in the 2nd edition of the NZGS Engineering Geology Manual, currently in preparation. However, the authors have decided to circulate it initially as a draft technical guide to enable it to be used, commented on, and modified before inclusion in the manual, publication of which is planned for mid 1989.
