Grapes, R.; Campbell, H.J. 1994 Red Rocks : a Wellington geological excursion. Lower Hutt: Geological Society of New Zealand. Geological Society of New Zealand guidebook 11. 32 p.
Abstract: The locality commonly known as Red Rocks on the south coast of Wellington is one of the smallest scientific reserves in New Zealand. In this account the authors describe the latest findings and present an interpretation of the origin of Red Rocks. It turns out to be quite a long and involved story that has grown out of a combination of field work, laboratory studies on the chemical, textural, and mineral composition of the rocks and determination of their age from newly discovered fossils.
