Priestley, R.; Cumming, S. 1993 The volcanoes of Taranaki. Lower Hutt: Institute of Geological & Nuclear Sciences. Institute of Geological & Nuclear Sciences information series 10 6 p.
Abstract: Taranaki's landscape is dominated by the majestic and classically shaped Mt Taranaki/Egmont. The circular ring plain surrounding the mountain was formed mainly from lahars and debris avalanches off the mountain. Volcanic ash that accumulated on these deposits has been weathered and incorporated into the local soil profile - providing Taranaki farmers with rich fertile soils. The brochure also includes a guide the the geology of the area. (auths/NJT)
