Grindley, G.W.; Nairn, I.A. 1974 Geothermal investigations in Papua-New Guinea. Lower Hutt: New Zealand Geological Survey. New Zealand Geological Survey report M 9. 27 p.
Following a request to the New Zealand Government by the Government of Papua-New Guinea for assistance in assessing their geothermal resources, the writers were offered assignments under the Bilateral Aid programme to undertake a preliminary investigation. This report is the outcome of a 3 week field reconnaissance of New Britain and the D'Entrecasteaux Islands east of Papua where, from information supplied to us by local geologists, the best geothermal prospects appeared to be located. This report is a preliminary one, insofar as chemical analyses of the samples collected have not been completed. However, enough exisiting analyses are available, together with published geology, and our own observations to make a preliminary assessment and to recommend specific thermal areas for further investigation, should this be considered worthwhile by the Papua-New Guinea Government.
