Abstract: The western Southland region described in this bulletin is bounded by the Alpine Fault to the west of Fiordland, and the Lake Wakatipu region, the Longwood and Takitimu ranges, and Stewart Island to the east. The southern limit is offshore in the Solander Trough. The information base for this study comprises 100 measured sections including 4 hydrocarbon exploration wells, 5000 km of onshore and offshore seismic reflection data, detailed and regional geological and geophysical maps, and much unpublished field data. This information is summarised on a series of 1:1 000 000 and 1:2 000 000. (auths)
