Abstract: Ruapehu volcano has been the subject of ongoing study over the past several decades. Interest is sparked not only by the hazards posed by this frequently active and unpredictable volcanic centre, but also because its story is continually evolving as past and present research projects raise new questions. The present research focus is very broad based, drawing from diverse fields including petrology, chemistry geophysics and surface processes. The 15 October 2008 Workshop at Wairakei provided an opportunity to share our research at Ruapehu. The timing of the workshop was important in that Ruapehu has produced two small eruptions on 4 October, 2006 and 25 September 2007, and the subsequent research on those eruptions is now maturing.
