Abstract: A workshop titled Living in earthquake country: building an evidence base for public education was held in October 2012. A series of presentations explored evidence-based actions before, during, and after an earthquake, and looked at effective, evidence-based methods for communicating these actions to the public. The workshop was intended for emergency managers, educators, communicators, and all those involved in public education and communication about disaster preparedness. Group discussions explored the gaps in evidence-based disaster preparedness education, and discussed the synergies and complementary programmes that could fill these gaps. (auth)
