Smale, D. 1982 Three beach sands from the Kermadec Islands. Lower Hutt: New Zealand Geological Survey. New Zealand Geological Survey report SL 2 5 p.

Abstract: During a visit to the Kermadec Islands in 1980, Simon Nathan (NZ Geological Survey) collected one beach sand from Macauley Island and W.R. Sykes (Botany Division) collected two from Raoul Island. The three sands were examined to compare them with their source rocks, to allow comparison with any cores that may be collected from nearby ocean bottom sediments, and to establish if any economic minerals are present. The sands, KERM/S1, S2 and S3 are from Sandy Bay (Macauley island), Low Flat and Denham Bay (Raoul Island) respectively (Fig 1). The geology of Raoul Island is described by Lloyd and Nathan (1981) and of Macauley island by Brothers and Martin.
