This short course is intended for students and researchers in all areas of earth and environmental sciences who are faced with questions such as:

  • What types of archives contain paleoenviromental information?
  • What is the most appropriate environmental indicator at my site?
  • What proxies are used for climate change?
  • How do I interpret these isotope data?
  • What techniques are best for which type of stratigraphic records?

This course is not intended to duplicate university classes, but to offer a concentrated three day workshop in specialised techniques presented by experts in their own fields of research. 

The format of the workshop consists of lectures, laboratory visits and question-answer sessions to discuss issues such as sample selection, sample preparation and interpretation of results.

A e-handbook of course materials will be available for download before the course starts.  We strongly encourage participants to bring laptops or other electronic devices with the course handbook and for the age-depth modelling workshop that will feature in this year’s course. Wi-Fi is available for guest access.
