Ker, D.S. 1966 Road aggregate survey : western Central North Island. Lower Hutt: New Zealand Geological Survey. Report NZGS 4 13 p.

Abstract: The purpose of this survey was to geologically assess the variety of aggregates at present being used, and to assist Ministry of Works (MOW) and other interested bodies in locating suitable roading material in difficult or ‘barren’ areas. It has not attempted to be comprehensive initially over such a large area, but it has been representative in that at least one working of each rock type used has been examined. Different MOW engineers have been involved, in order to reach an understanding of which materials are acceptable, and with a view to locating further potential supplies in strategic areas. This survey includes the whole of the Wanganui MOW District, which includes: Rangitikei, Manawatu, Taihape, Wanganui, Raetihi, Central Volcanic Region, Taranaki, Mokau, Ohura, Whangamomona, Taumaranui, West Taupo.
