Hope, K.B. 1973 Greymouth Coalfield cores. Lower Hutt: New Zealand Geological Survey. Report NZGS 64 16 p.

Abstract: During a detailed study of the Greymouth Coalfield (Fig 1) Gage (1952, Appendix 3) listed all the drillholes known to have been drilled before 1945, and gave logs for most of them. To overcome the confusion resulting from the many overlapping series of numbers of old drillholes a new numbering system was introduced for all known drillholes in the area covered by the topographic map NZMS 1 sheet S44 (Greymouth). The drillholes are numbered serially, and prefixed by S44/d. Gage (1952) listed drillholes S44/d1-269, and records of all later drillholes are held in the NZ Geological Survey. These cores form a valuable source of data, not only for studying the sub-surface geology of coal-butting areas, but also for investigations into the paleogeography and sedimentology of the Greymouth area, and for this reason a list of all the cores should be addressed to the Director, NZ Geological Survey, Lower Hutt.
