Cullington, A.L 1952 A note on an isogonic chart of New Zealand for epoch 1st January 1954. : . Report / Geophysics Division 2 2 p

Abstract: On the 17th April 1951 Commander J.M. Sharpey-Schafer, HMNZS requested a chart showing the magnetic variation of the compass together with the annual change for the New Zealand coasts for the year 1954. New charts of New Zealand, arising out of the survey work carried out by the H.M.N.Z.S. , were to be published, showing the magnetic variation and its annual change on the compass roses. It was evidently Naval policy to show an epoch ahead of the date of publication and for this reason the epoch 1st January 1954 was selected so that the magnetic information would be reasonably accurate for navigation purposes until such time as the charts would be revised. The chart attached hereto has been prepared to display the most probable form of the isogonic lines and the isoporic lines for the magnetic declination or the variation of the compass for the coasts of New Zealand for epoch 1st January 1954.
