King, G.A.M 1954 Determination of ion distribution with height in the ionosphere. : . Report / Geophysics Division 16 4 p

Abstract: Initial work was aimed at obtaining an approximate value for the total number of electrons in an ionospheric layer using a curve-fitting method due to Pierce. It was found necessary to include the effect of the earth's magnetic field on propagation. Appropriate refractive indices are being prepared. Measurements taken by a simpler curve-fitting method showed the need to obtain the actual shapes of the layers. An approximate way for doing this is being pursued, and a simple machine to perform the intergrations is being built. (auth)
