Stern, T.A.; Davey, F.J. 1985 Crustal structure studies within the central North Island: the central volcanic region. : . Report / Geophysics Division 207 47 p.

Abstract: The structure of the crust and upper mantle for the Central Volcanic Region has been investigated by using the seismic refraction technique. Three shots were detonated in the Bay of Plenty and one in Lake Taupo; seismographs were located at approximately 10 km intervals between these shots. Energy that had passed beneath the Central Volcanic Region to stations on the western flanks of the Central Volcanic Region was detected at shot-seismograph ranges of up to 200 km. These data form the basis of velocity and depth to upper mantle determinations for the Central Volcanic Region of 7.4+/-0.2 km/s and 15.5+/-3 km respectively. (auth)
