Abstract: This report presents a geological map for a portion of the southern Hawkes Bay area, which includes a transect from the Maraetotara Plateau westward through the Waipawa region to the Wakarara Range and the Ohara Depression. Mapping was concentrated on Pliocene and younger rocks, which covers most of the area. The mapped area is bounded to the west by Mesozoic greywacke of the Ruahine Ranges. The purpose of this report is to present the geologic maps that are the basis for several interpretative papers that discuss the tectonic evolution and structure of the area. New stratigraphic units described are Pukekura Calcarenite (Tpp) (new), Rotookiwa Limestone (Tpro) (new), Waikareao Calcarenite (Tpw) (new), Kaumatua Formation (Tpkm) (new), Sentry Box Limestone (Tpsb) (new), Mount Mary Limestone (Tpmm) (new), Ohara Mudstone (TQoh) (new), Mahanca Mudstone (TQma) (new), Pakipaki Limestone (TQpk) (new), Mason Ridge Limestone and interbedded mudstone (Qmr) (new), Okauawa Formation (Qok) (new), and Poutaki Pumiceous Formation (Qpu) (new).
