Watters, W.A. 1993 Notes on minerals and rocks of the Canaan area, Pikikiruna Range, Nelson. Lower Hutt: Institute of Geological & Nuclear Sciences Institute of Geological & Nuclear Sciences science report 93/17 36 p.

Abstract: This report comprises a study of rocks and minerals along the complex contact zone between Paleozoic metasedimentary rocks, especially the Arthur Marble, and granitoid rocks at Canaan, Pikikiruna Range, Nelson. The main rock types and their inter-relationships are described. Minerals found are grouped in the following associations: carbonate rocks and hornfelses; metasomatised rocks, including skarns; acid intrusive veins; and quartz veins. In addition, those found as secondary minerals and those as detrital grains and larger fragments are listed. Over 60 minerals are recognised from the area. An alphabetically arranged list of all the minerals so far discovered is given, with locality and other details. Mineral changes in the contact zone are briefly discussed. (auth)
