Abstract: Focuses on the reaction of soluble aluminium with silicic acid in pure water at various pH values and also at a small concentration in a background concentration of sodium chloride. The aim of this project was to obtain thermodynamic and kinetic data so that the chemistry of aluminium in the presence of silicic acid in natural systems was more amenable to quantatative interpretation with regard to evaluating the concentration of toxic forms. Analytical methods were set up and preliminary experiments undertaken to repeat some previous published research.
