Watters, W.A. 1994 Notes on rocks within the Median Tectonic Zone near Nelson City and on Stewart and Codfish Islands . Lower Hutt: Institute of Geological & Nuclear Sciences Institute of Geological & Nuclear Sciences science report 94/27 45 p.
Abstract: This report is a follow-up to earlier work by the author in Nelson and on Stewart Island and the nearby Codfish Island. For the Nelson rocks, the information supplements some of that given in Johnston el al. (1987) and in particular deals with samples found as blocks associated with the Flaxmore Fault at Ledbury Road, Nelson City. The Codfish Island and Stewart Island samples were collected during field trips before and after the publication of the 1:250 000 sheet 26 (Watters et al. 1968). Information is still incomplete, and, in the case of Stewart Island, essential radiometric age data are still lacking. The following descriptions and comments have been written in the hope that they will be helpful during future work on the Median Tectonic Zone in the two regions. The report is in two parts, A and B (see table of contents). Pages, figures, and tables are numbered consecutively throughout the report, but each part has its own abstract, keywords, and list of references. Five-digit numbers prefixed by P refer to catalogued samples and thin sections in the National Petrology Reference Collection. In Figure 5, however, the prefix P has been omitted from the many sample numbers shown. (auth)
