Abstract: Results are presented of computer analyses of 22 strong-motion accelerograms recorded during three major New Zealand earthquakes in 1993. The earthquakes are: 1) the Tikokino Earthquake of 11 April 1993 (local magnitude 5.9, centre approximately 24 km northwest of Waipawa), 2) the Fiordland Earthquake of 10 August 1993 (local magnitude 6.7, centre approximately 10 km offshore of Secretary Island western Fiordland), and 3) the Ormond Earthquake of 10 August 1993 (local magnitude 6.3, centre approximately 18 km northwest of Gisborne). In total, 30 accelerograms and 11 scratch-plate acceleroscope records were recovered following the earthquakes. recorded peak ground accelerations ranged from a low of 0.005g at Wellington sites 400 km from the epicentre of the Ormond Earthquake, to a high of 0.26g at a Gisborne site 18 km from the same earthquake. Twenty two of the accelerograms have been processed. Brief details are given of the New Zealand strong-motion network, accelerogram processing techniques, the earthquakes, the accelerograms and the recorder sites, followed by reproductions of acceleroscope records, and computer plots of the acceleration, velocity and displacement time histories, Fourier spectra, and response spectra. Tabulated response spectra are also presented. (auths)
