Abstract: Results are presented of computer analyses of 12 strong-motion accelerograms recorded during the ML 6.6 Arthur's Pass earthquake of 18 June 1994. In total, 21 accelerograms and 17 scratch-plate acceleroscope records were recovered following the earthquake. Recorded peak ground accelerations ranged from a low of about 0.005g at Lower Hutt and Invercargill sites which respectively were 340 and 430 km from the epicentre, to a high of nearly 0.5 at the Arthur's Pass police station site 13 km from the epicentre. Brief details are given of the New Zealand strong-motion network, accelerogram processing techniques, the earthquakes, the accelerograms and the recorder sites, followed by reproductions of acceleroscope records, and computer plots of the acceleration, velocity and displacement time histories, Fourier spectra, and response spectra. Tabulated response spectra are also included as files on disk. (auth)
