Abstract: Twenty-nine examples of loess from a 17.4 m drillcore at Rangitatau East (Wanganui, New Zealand) have been size-separated to 10Be and 9Be. The results are difficult to interpret in the absence of additional geochemical data, but show a broadly decreasing trend in 10Be with increasing depth. The overall level of 10Be in these loesses is c. 2 times that of loess from the Chinese Loess Plateau, reflecting a lower sedimentation rate and, possibly, a higher 10Be source. On-going work continues to refine the 'Be profile, and to interpret the data in terms of geochemical and mineralogical trends. (auth)
