Abstract: During May 1996 the Institute of Geological and Nuclear Sciences contracted the University of Otago to collect a small high-resolution seismic reflection survey of the southern portion of the Canterbury Bight. The data were acquired to investigate the shallow sub-bottom geology of an area where the sedimentary environment has been affected by sea level changes in a gravel-dominated, braid-plain environment. The survey constitutes one phase of an integrated study into the composition and structure of the Quaternary sequences of the Canterbury Bight region. This study involves the synthesis of onland mapping, the lithostratigraphic structure of onland and offshore wells, reprocessing and interpretation of existing deep multichannel seismic reflection data and high resolution profiles already held on file. The report details field operations for the seismic data acquisition survey. (auth/JIH)
