Mumme, T.C. 1997 Paleomagnetism of the Waitakian-Otaian boundary at Bluecliffs, Otaio River, South Canterbury and the Duntroonian-Waitakian boundary at Trig Z, Otiake, North Otago. Abstract: The stratotype for the Waitakian-Otaian stage boundary at Bluecliffs, South Canterbury was sampled for paleomagnetism in October 1992. Three collections were made in the vicinity. A suite of bulk sediment was also collected from these sections for integrated stratigraphy. The Waitakian-Otaian stage boundary as determined on the first appearance datum of Ehrenbergina marwicki is placed at about 37 metres stratigraphically above the base of the cliff section. Oriented cores were also collected at 1 m intervals from the lower 16 m of Otekaike Limestone at Trig Z (NZMS260 I40). This locality is the stratotype of the Waitakian Stage and the section sampled is from upper Duntroonian to lower Waitakian in age. (auth)
