Johnston, D.M.; Perrin, N.D.; McVerry, G.H.; Dowrick, D.J.; Scott, B.J. 2002 A review of earthquake, landslide, geothermal and volcano information for the Rotorua Lifelines Project . Lower Hutt: Institute of Geological & Nuclear Sciences. Institute of Geological & Nuclear Sciences science report 2002/04 47 p.

Abstract: This report assembles and presents a review of existing information on geological hazards and their effects in the district and adjoining areas. The report covers earthquake, landslide, volcanic and geothermal activity hazards, and identifies “gaps” that may require additional work. Three hazard scenarios, for a 475-year return period earthquake, for an earthquake likely to produce maximum motions in Rotorua City (over 2500-year return period motions), and for a volcanic eruption, have been prepared for use in the Lifelines Project.
