Abstract: A full waveform inversion code, that is widely used to invert for the high-resolution compressional wave velocity structure, has been modified to enable inversion for shear wave velocity based on the amplitude-versus-offset characteristics of compressional arrivals. The inversion code and its associated publication already contained the necessary equations for the Frechet derivatives which made it relatively easy to modify the code accordingly. The code was successfully tested against several synthetic data sets. (auth)
