Abstract: In February 2004, the lower North Island of New Zealand experienced a sustained heavy period of rainfall, resulting in flooding and other associated storm damage. Within Lower Hutt, the Waiwhetu area was affected, with flooding occurring around the Waiwhetu Stream and tributaries. In August 2004 another smaller storm event took place over the Wellington area which also contributed to localised flood and storm damage around Waiwhetu. This report focuses on the February 2004 event and presents the tabulated results of a survey of Lower Hutt businesses. The survey investigated a number of issues surrounding the February storm and flood event including damage caused by the event, depth of flooding experienced, other impacts experienced as a result of the February storm, flood prevention measures undertaken by businesses, insurance issues and peoples’ experience of the flood warnings. A small amount of information on impacts experienced during the August event was also collected. This report presents the results of the data collected in table format, but does not contain any interpretation or analysis. (auth)
