Palmer, N.G. 2005 Kinematics of the New Zealand plate boundary : field report on the 2005 GPS survey of the Taupo Volcanic Zone network (TVZ2005) . Lower Hutt: Institute of Geological & Nuclear Sciences. Institute of Geological & Nuclear Sciences science report 2005/19 61 p.
Abstract: During a sixteen day period in February 2005, plus an additional ten days distributed between March and early May, a team from the Institute of Geological & Nuclear Sciences Ltd (GNS) measured a Global Positioning System (GPS) network through the Taupo Volcanic Zone (TVZ) area of New Zealand. This “TVZ2005” campaign is intended to consolidate a number of smaller GPS campaigns and surveys that have been executed in the past, in order to provide a single, cohesive GPS data set for the TVZ area. The stations observed include sites last occupied as long ago as December 1990 and as recently as March 2004, plus an additional sixteen existing Land Information New Zealand (LINZ) survey marks that had not been observed during previous GPS campaigns. It is intended that these observations will be used in continuing studies into earth deformation within the Taupo Volcanic Zone. This report documents the survey, describing the logistics of the campaign, the sites occupied and the data collected. (auth)
