Palmer, N.G. 2007 Kinematics of the New Zealand plate boundary : field report for the ''It's our fault'' GPS survey of the Wellington and southern Wairarapa network in 2004 and 2007 (WELL2004 & WELL2007). Lower Hutt, N.Z.: GNS Science. GNS Science report 2007/27 80 p.

Abstract: A major research project named “It’s Our Fault” was commenced in December 2006 to improve the understanding of the vulnerability of the Wellington region to large earthquakes. One objective of this study is the re-observation of an expanded GPS network to help constrain the earthquake generating potential of the subduction thrust under Wellington, as well as possibly further constraining slip rate uncertainties for the major upper plate faults in the region. This report describes the reobservation of 103 GPS stations in early 2007, along with the reconnaissance, selection and installation of 24 new campaign GPS sites to improve the network. The observed area covers the southern section of the Wellington and Wairarapa GPS network. The report also details the survey of a subset of this network that was observed in November 2004 in order to provide improved temporal resolution to the data. (auth)
