Wallace, G.; Manning, J.; Hutchinson, E.F. 2009 Cedar drying trial at the Philomath Mill. Lower Hutt, N.Z.: GNS Science. GNS Science report 2009/18 8 p.

Abstract: A drying trial of 102 cedar boards was organised at the Mary’s River Lumber Co. mill in Philomath, Oregon. The plan was to determine the green density of the boards, along with a representative colour and the acoustic velocity of each board. Following kiln drying over the usual 8 days, the dry density and dry acoustic velocity was to be measured, and samples taken for later oven drying to determine the board specific gravities. Once combined, these measurements would enable us to calculate actual moisture contents in the green state and after kiln drying. (auth/DG)
