Abstract: Kaitaia is situated in the valley of the Awanui River in Northland, New Zealand. The Awanui River and Tarawhataroa Stream both flow through Kaitaia, and cause regular flooding. This report outlines the results of two surveys undertaken in Kaitaia, Northland, New Zealand to investigate people’s perceptions of and preparedness for flood hazards. The surveys were undertaken in 2006 and 2009, with one minor and one major flood event occurring in between the surveys, in 2007. This report outlines the surveys and the nature of the flood hazard in Kaitaia. Finally it presents the results of the surveys in a summary format. (auth)
