Boyes, A.F. 2018 Cruise report, East Coast sea surface slick sampling, 1 - 6 October 2018. Lower Hutt, N.Z.: GNS Science. GNS Science report 2018/46. 29 p.; doi: 10.21420/BSP4-7F22

Abstract:

A sea surface slick sampling survey was undertaken in the southern East Coast region of the North Island, New Zealand, from 1 – 6 October 2018 using the vessel Nereus charted from Star Offshore Service, Napier. In total nine sites were visited and 14 samples (excluding water and air blanks) were collected. The survey used standard slick sampling kits (General Oceanics Teflon Oil Sampling Net). When weather conditions permitted a Phantom 4 Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) with a live feed to the vessel was used to locate possible slicks at each site. Visual inspection of the samples at the GNS office after the voyage indicated that seven of the samples contained some organic matter and they were sent to Applied Petroleum Technology (APT), Norway, for geochemical analysis.
