Abstract:

The centre of New Zealand’s Extended Continental Shelf was calculated using a Lambert Conformal Conic projection with the projection parameters progressively improved in an iterative manner to find a precise solution. It lies on land near the Mt Reeves Track in the Tararua Ranges at 175.36229°E, 41.01821°S. Artist Billy Apple designed an artwork that was installed on the 29th March 2019 by GNS Science and the Department of Conservation to mark the location. (auth)
