Abstract: During 19 July - 12 August the TAN1409 voyage completed geophysical surveys of five sites in the eastern Tasman Sea in preparation for International Ocean Discovery Programme (IODP) scientific drilling. Two sites (Lord Howe Rise North, LHRN and New Caledonia Trough North (NCTN) are within the Australian Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ), on site (Tasman Sea Abyssal Plain, TASS) lies near the outer boundary of the Australian Extended Continental Shelf (ECS), and the remaining two (New Caledonia Trough South, NCTS and Lord Howe Rise South, LHRS) are located on the New Zealand ECS. Underway geophysical data included gravity, magnetic, and multibeam swath bathymetry observations. 67 multichannel seismic reflection lines (1800 km) were acquired and processed. In addition, sub-bottom profiler data were acquired at all sites apart from site LHRS and during transits. (auth)
