Abstract: Engineering geological mapping of the Whangarei city area has enabled the delineation of areas where natural slopes have a high susceptibility of failure. These slopes are formed in weathered Tertiary rocks; slopes in Onerahi Formation are particularly troublesome. Further urban development in unfavorably areas will require careful investigation and design. (auth)
