Oborn, L.E. 1980 Slope instability at Te Puia Springs. Lower Hutt: New Zealand Geological Survey. New Zealand Geological Survey report EG 351 10 p.
Abstract: In a letter dated 5 August 1980, Mr B.D. Edgar, County Engineer, Waiapu County, drew attention to the relatively large ground movements detected by the Lands and Survey Department's surveyors, and requested an engineering geological assessment of any hazard facing Te Puia Springs. In particular he sought information on four points: 1. The delineation of the landslip hazard to Te Puia Springs. 2. The possibility and probability of a catastrophic increase in movement affecting all or part of the township. 3. Any provisions considered mandatory to prevent any increase int he likelihood of such a catastrophic increase. 4. Any provisions possible to reduce the likelihood of a catastrophic increase in movement. This report does not attempt to answer any of these questions, this could not be expected after a 1 1/2 day familiarisation visit, but it does offer comment on these issues, and suggests further investigations that might be worth implementing.
