Abstract:
The sequence of raised beaches at Turakirae provides the geologist with a series of basic reference points, rather like surveyors' datum points, for information on earth movements of the entire Wellington area. Their study provides data for assessing the amount, type and frequency of past movements and also the possible nature and frequency of future earth movements, which are likely to be accompanied by severe earthquakes.
