Abstract: This map illustrates the geology of Banks Peninsula and the southeastern edge of the Canterbury Plains at a scale of 1:100 000. The publication is the culmination of 10 years of recent work by the Institute of Geological & Nuclear Sciences Ltd and the Geology Department, University of Canterbury. Drillhole and seismic information have been combined with outcrop data to produce a cross section. The map is fully illustrated with photographs by well-known landscape photographer Lloyd Homer, and with explanatory small-scale maps and diagrams. The geology, landforms, and geological history of the area are described in a column of text at the side of the map. This map provides a valuable resource for all those interested in the geology, landscape and geological history of Banks Peninsula. (auths)
