Abstract

This document provides guidance for the visual communication of uncertainty within quantitative natural hazard and risk information to enhance clarity and avoid misinterpretation. It may be useful for anyone tasked with creating, communicating and/or translating scientific natural hazard and risk data and information. It can help inform decisions about how to design graphs, maps, and other visualisations to facilitate effective communication of data uncertainty. This guidance is based on a variety of sources and peer-reviewed published research. Suggestions are generalised, and relevant application in practice will depend on individual dataset and audience needs. It is not linked to any policy or procedure, nor is it compulsory, but follows best practice principles for cartography, design and accessibility (auth)
