Mazengarb, C.; Speden, I.G. 2000 Geology of the Raukumara area. Lower Hutt: Institute of Geological & Nuclear Sciences Limited. Institute of Geological & Nuclear Sciences 1:250,000 geological map 6 60 p. + 1 fold. map

Abstract: The Raukumara 1:250,000 geological map covers a land area of 11,700 km2, the easternmost part of the North Island, New Zealand. The west of the region is dominated by the forest-covered, deeply dissected Raukumara Range, which is flanked to the east and south by incised, erosion-prone hill country. Alluvial terraces and floodplains are present in the major catchments, particularly those of the Wharekahika, Awatere, Waipaoa, Mata, Hikuwai, Uawa, Waipaoa, Wairoa, Hangaroa and Ruakituri rivers. Marine terraces are well developed along the coast, with dune complexes and back swamps present in some areas (for example, between Wairoa and Mahia Peninsula). (auth)
