Waterhouse, B.C. 1966 The limestone resources of the Auckland District (from Wellsford to Mercer, including Coromandel). Auckland: New Zealand Geological Survey. Report NZGS 10 36 p.

Abstract: In 1962 a Limestone Resources Survey of the south and south-west Auckland area was initiated by the demands of the recently established NZ Steel Investigating Company, to investigate limestone deposits of a quantity that would be suitable for possible iron and steel making from West Coast ironsands. In addition to the Steel Company’s requirements, local demand for lime as fertiliser and for industrial use was such that the NZ Geological Survey undertook to report upon, and delineate areas of, limestone reserves in a series of reports. This report covers roughly the area between Te Hana, a few miles north of Wellsford, to Papakura and extends eastward to the Coromandel Peninsula. It presents known local limestone information from published and unpublished material, supplemented by fieldwork in areas of potential importance. It is written primarily from a geological viewpoint and includes notes on regional and local Tertiary stratigraphy, lithology, age, quantity, and chemical analyses where available. (auth) Note: Photographs have been given figure numbers but are not included in the text.
