Mackie, J.B. 1981 The relationship between the WGS72 Doppler satellite datum and the New Zealand geodetic datum 1949. : . Report / Geophysics Division 178 43 p.

Abstract: Satellite Doppler tracking at 18 stations in New Zealand has yielded their positions in a 3-dimensional Cartesian reference frame which is mass-centred and defined by WGS72. The same 18 stations are connected to the New Zealand Geodetic Datum 1949 (NZGD49) which is referenced to the International (Hayford) Spheroid in a frame which is not mass-centred. Heights of station in NZGD49 are in terms of mean sea level - the geoid; their heights above the surface of the spheroid cannot therefore be found unless further assumptions are made, i.e. unless an acceptable geoid-spheroid relationship can be established
